Swipers Gully was established
by ELTHAM College in 2002. Our aim was to create a boutique winery with
an emphasis on producing small quantities of premium wine.
All of our wines are produced
exclusively from hand-picked fruit, grown and cared for at our Kangaroo
Ground vineyard.
Our vineyard is located on a 20 acre
site on which the vines currently occupy approximately 5 acres. Part of
the site is blessed with a dark volcanic soil whilst the majority is
clay based shale.
Our oldest vines were planted in 1992
and we currently grow a selection of grape varieties including
cabernet, shiraz, chardonnay, merlot, pinot and verduzzo vines.
Our first vintage was planned to
commemorate ELTHAM College’s 30th anniversary in 2003. The 2003 grape
crop was as unique as the College itself.
2002/3 was a severe drought year
resulting in grapes that were significantly compromised producing a
highly distressed harvest. The result however, although small in
quantity, was absolutely unique in quality.
Our exclusive range of premium wine is
sold by mail order and it is anticipated that Cellar door sales will
commence in 2010.
